Having a close connection to nature since her early childhood, Julia Leifert, the designer for Berlin-based fashion label Philomena Zanetti, brings elements of a sustainable lifestyle and high quality fashion into a unique combination.

Choosing a presentation over the classic catwalk format, PHILOMENA ZANETTI clearly stood out during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin for Fall/Winter 2016/2017.

The designer had the audience gather around the models in a unique way of presenting her pieces. The label created a very different atmosphere and offered the chance to view each piece longer and more intensely. With sounds of nature underlining the models' appearance, the collection was presented in soft light. With only three outfits presented at a time, the simplistic but innovative designs got the recognition and attention they deserved. The label has always refused to believe that sustainability and innovative design cannot be combined and thus created a collection that reflects exactly that belief: aesthetic expectations can be fulfilled alongside environmental awareness.

The Fall/Winter 2016 collection was inspired by the coastal landscapes of Ireland and, because of that distinct picture, the colour scheme included different shades of green, grey and brown. The cocoon-like cuts and silhouetted of the collection suggested some sort of protection from the outside world - an ever growing and pace-increasing surrounding from which we need shelter. Matching the concept of the collection itself with the presentation so well was a brilliant strategy: the audience was able to actually understand the meaning of "Redefining Melancholia" and got to take in some of the boundless Irish countryside - which is opposing the monotone, fast paced urbanism.

Looks included knitted turtlenecks, oversized coats, knee-length dresses and olive, slightly shimmering buttoned-down shirts.

Offering a hard contrast to the very natural-looking outfits, the make up consisted of thick white lines from the models’ forehead down to their mouth and surrounding one part of the lip. This represented the very modern and futuristic side of urban chic while the outfits invited us to take a step back and reflect on the serenity of nature.
