Since 2005, the Austrian designer Lena Hoschek knows how to impress with feminine retro designs, which she showed again in her autumn/winter 2016 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.

Some things like waist-hugging silhouettes always remain the same. But Lena Hoschek knows how to innovate collection after collection, this time with different themes and inspirations. For her Fall and Winter 2016 looks, something new is brought in: a light change within the collection. Exceptional vintage looks are mixed and matched, without losing sight of the traditional British lifestyle.

Accompanied by the Miss Marple theme song, the show begins with some dull dresses, partly covered in her typical floral patterns, coloured in brown and bordeaux, and completed with little berets. Checks and diamond patterns, tiny bows, ruffles and laced collars give a British impression, just perfect for the fall mood. A kind of granny chic, between Sherlock Holmes and the traditional British men's fashion, are the primary sources of inspiration. The designer’s love for nature is clearly visible, with many designs recalling dreamily beautiful English rose gardens. Adorable cross-stitch motifs, showing the forest dwellers such as fox and squirrel, also evidence a natural aspect.

But as we look at a fall-collection for astute amateur detectives, Hoschek contrasts these opaque styles by sending models in transparent fabrics on the catwalk. This results in visible intimate body parts – a clear sign sent by lingerie-lover Hoschek to show her passion for sexy underneaths.

After a hot detective game, her collection changes by showing some kind of schoolgirl looks, with the introduction of a lower waistline in some of her showpieces. The collection shifts into a mixture of stripes, bands, fur linings and glittering jewellery, without loosing that Brit-touch. As always, she expertly demonstrates her talent, while sticking with her collection theme. The British aristocratic style is supplemented by more festive, but always suitable, everyday dresses and ensembles in silk fabrics with striking botanical prints and gold accents. In addition to two floor-length couture gowns in French lace and silk, Lena Hoschek reveals a stunning Wallis Simpson-inspired high-necked wedding dress, which enraptures the ladies in the audience. Some things just never change!
