The Berlin-based designer THOMAS HANISCH presented his latest Spring/ Summer 2017 collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Thomas Hanisch is an avant-garde designer, who combines art and fashion in a complete new way to get wearable art. No wonder he designed a dress for the extravagante pop singer Lady Gaga.
There was so much going on in his newest collection: Thomas Hanisch determined how to go out on a high note. What the models wore were the sexiest and most feminine designs that have come from him since he founded his label in 2014. The collection showed his love for extremes and reflected visionary futuristic fashion. His concept: creating silhouettes with a mixture of high-quality flowing designs and sculptural constructions – a play with stiff and flowing pieces. The fabric mix ran from leather, faux fur and a lot of latex pieces to flowing printed materials. The link between these different fabrics were giving a sense of movement, achieving an interessting and exciting look.
The show opened with an transparent blouse and black suit composed of a blazer and flaired dress pants. Black and white were the key for his collection: there were striped jackets, skirts and pants. One extraordinary detail in his collection was the houndstooth print made of black and white sequins. He used it for pants, dresses and tops which achieved a genial sophistication. He wasn´t scared to combine this extravagant pattern with the flowing fabric printed in black and orange tones. Adding a big splash of hot red, the designer created a harmony of contrasts. An incredible costume made of Latex striped in red, black and white cause suprise by the audience. Another favourite piece were an oversized suit with a big front cut made out of red sequins.

The range of special effects was impressive: the designer used fur to make the pieces more extravagant: fur skirts and fur jackets. A big black and white coat made out of fur with a red belt tied at the waist was truly unique. Gold zips on skirts and jackets were also exciting details that created visual statements. Thomas Hanisch suprised his show audience with an interessting styling: the models’ hair was formed of a big quiff on top and the rest was teased for more volume, reminding of the rockabilly vibe. The the models’ make up was, as the show, quite extreme: gaudy pink eye-shadow over the lids and eyebrows and fire-red lipstick.
By the time the last model walked out, it was clear that Thomas Hanisch was making an effort not be basic: having a signature is essential to sucess. Thomas Hanisch showed not just a sexy version of feminity, but also exquisite handwork especially related to the combination of stiff and flowing fabrics. Applause.
