Saving the best for last: Ioana Ciolacu’s amazing collection for Autumn/Winter 2016/17 was one of the last shows during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.
The young designer was chosen by British designer Stella McCartney and a panel of judges, which included Christiane Arp, the editor-in-chief of German Vogue, as the Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf for Tomorrow. Ioana Ciolacu is a rising star of European Fashion.
Ciolacu defined the upcoming season with high-necked and worthy pieces in forms of dresses, blouses and sweatshirts. In contrast to that, she created compelling looks such as bodysuits, shorts or a backless jumpsuit. The Romanian designer created a sophisticated street-wear collection that would be both approachable and comfortable for the modern minimalist. Because of the width and mostly oversized-looks, some cuts evoked men´s wear but remained very feminine and elegant.
The collection was not so down-to-earth, there was a touch of classiness. The key feauture of this collection was fur. It was used as scarves, boleros or as big details on sweaters. A highlight was an extraordinary belt with a fur-tail tied around the hips. For one of her final looks she created an oversized fur-vest – the perfect favourite piece for next autumn/winter.
In terms of color Ioana Ciolacu reduced skillfully on a clean and elegant basis of grey and cream tones, which were broken by red, blue and canary yellow. To power up this day wear Ioana used colourful statement prints, which brought a structural edge to her designs - no wonder considering she has a background in architecture.

For all the intelligence and imagination that have been worked into this collection, Ioana Ciolacu showed a new version of modern women. The collection was defined by loana Ciolacu’s signature that blurs the lines between femininity and masculinity, with an emphasis on tailoring and playing with contrary shapes.
