Aggressive electronic music makes sure that SADAK’s guests are fully awake for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin’s first show. The designer opens the dance by stating loud and clear that he is here to present his Autumn/ Winter 2016 collection.

On a beat that provokes some people in the audience to move their head and feet, the models walk in a relaxed and confident way. Although their pace is quite slow, the music keeps us focused on each outfit, which allows us to appreciate every detail. The drum notes, recalling an African fight song, puts us into an ethnical context, bringing other cultures to Germany.

The collection mixes military prints with Indian and Arabic ornamentations, to offer a new kind of streetwear. Oversized and deconstructed shorts, t-shirts, shirts, dresses and coats support an urban style, which is put in contrast to tighter trousers and headpieces. Bomber jackets and oversized coats follow what appear to be classical jackets and shirts, which actually all contain a deconstructed side. Indeed, with a shirt sewn over another shirt, or a shirt that has two distinct parts blended together, the outfits look like an organized messiness, which demonstrates talent in the making, as well as a concordance with the army theme. Pockets with visible seams on jackets and shirts, or transparent black tulle as a support for beautifully made Oriental pieces, the designer clearly paid attention to every little element. There is a pleasant play on shapes and superposition of layers, which adds to the amalgam of fabrics, textures and prints. It is as though the designer’s clothes represent today’s society, but providing a solution by achieving harmony in each garments.

Earthy colours and black constitute the basis of this menswear collection – including one outfit worn by a female model – and surrounded by colourful Oriental patterns, as well as army prints. Each look represents a statement, a fight which the young individuals wearing SADAK designs boldly assume. The collection depicts a mix of cultures and ethnicities, co-existing in harmony although they are different and contrasted, which is also evident in the choice of models who all come from different regions of the world.

The Serbian fashion and stage designer, Sasa Kovacevic, clearly exhibits his brand identity with this show. His skills in manipulating lights and music grabs our attention, to express only better what he believes in. A manifesto for individuality and personal style, this collection is a fight for freedom and equality.
