Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin closed on a few memorable shows, including that of SAMMLER BERLIN. Entitled “Côte d’Azul”, Rebecca Sammler’s spring/summer 2017 collection was inspired by the French Riviera, and the beauty its sea contains.

Since launching her eponymous label in 2012, Rebecca Sammler stands for Berlin glamour, creating luxurious handmade, timeless pieces. The designer offers a range of evening and bridal wear, with exquisite fur and leather works. In addition, Sammler has the noble sustainable aspect of only crafting leather and fur leftover from the food industry. She does not only make the world a prettier place, but also a better one.

Sammler’s signature leather was found yet again in her new spring/summer collection, in a variation of shorts, a skirt, tops and jackets, and colours. Metallic purple, blue and gold supported the impressive leatherwork, as well as the maritime theme. As hues from the Côte d’Azur’s Mediterranean sea, the leather was paired with sequin-embroidered tops, wide-legged trousers, dresses and skirts, or with light pleated silk to give a flowy feeling. The models reflected the undulations of summer waves and evoked a stylish holiday, to which all the audience dreamt of attending.

Some of the silhouettes and styling referred back to the 1960s and Brigitte Bardot’s style apogee. As one of fashion history’s most iconic moments, Rebecca Sammler put her designs on the pedestal they deserved. The opening looks’ mini shorts, the puffy hairstyle and metallic platform shoes all recalled the best of 1960s St Tropez and its exclusive elegant circle. With modern additions such as a flower-dyed see-through fabric mixed with a purple leather skirt or blue silk items, Sammler found the perfect balance between inspiration from the past and going forward, hence creating timeless pieces.

If being trendy could seem important, there is an even greater satisfaction in being universally elegant across generations. When Bardot did it back in the ‘60s, SAMMLER BERLIN applied it to her most recent collection with summery looks that would never go out of style.
