The Berlin-based label STEINROHNER, who was awarded the Young Designers´ Award Germany 2015, presented their spring/ summer 2017 collection „Cactus“ at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. As the name implies, the collection dared a journey full of elegance and delicacy into the resilience of succulents – a contradiction to the common ephemerality of fashion.
The designers created an easy and funny atmosphere: models with turquoise eyeshadow in the inner corner of their eyes swung out to electric beats from Dirtyguys, that was fun – fun to watch. From its starts in 2013, Steinrohner has become well-known for their confident and playful creations that move between fashion and art. And again, they fullfilled the qualities of their label. The designers created gorgeous looks that took the beholder and the wearer away into a parallel world of dreams and phantasy. The edition "Cactus" lived up to its name. Every piece carried the story of the drawings from „Blühende Kakteen“ (1901-1921) by J.Neumann wrapping itself modestly yet stylishly around the female body. In the spirit of keeping the collections contemporary, the designer-duo transfromed the original lithographies from 1920s into lucid digital prints on fabrics like silk, viscose, neoprene, foil and organza. The results were gentile but spiny garments allowing their wearers to blossom in full protection. Modern laser cut technologies interplayed with traditional handcraft techniques achieving atmospherically scented silhouettes.
The unique yellow-green print was complemented by classic colours like black, white and beige. To this the designers added metallic elements. They went for silver in a big way: shoes, skirts or spiny embellishments gave their designs a particular charm and twist. Some of the models wore colossal earings on one ear. They reminded a little of a metallic cactus. Transperancy was a big theme in their collection too. Transparent raincoats and jackets that were added over printed pieces uniquely achieved a fascinating mix. Transparent accessories like backpacks, bags and hats prooved the designers´ ability to look at a generic garment with new eyes.

The edition „Cactus“ was brillant. By trusting their instincts the designers created an avant-garde but sensitive collection that consisted of clothing art, coating the silhouette of the style-conscious woman with the imperishability and enchanting modesty of nature – similar to cacti that blossom full beauty and strength on the outside.
