Just off Carnaby Street presented CMMN SWDN their SS17 collection as part of London Collections Men. The "Market Rodeo" collection was inspired by a recent trip to Morocco from Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund. They were mesmerized by Marrakach's vibrant and colorful street markets. They explain: "We really liked the stuffy warm air that smelled of exotic spices, and the chaotic mixture of colors, texture and materials. It truly is a place where east meets west." The title of the collection came to be, when the designers thought of the busy, camel filled streets around the market square that reminded them of Western rodeo riders.
Energy meets serenity in this collection that the two designers use dry cottons as well as distressed denim, inspired by the crackled sand in the desert. Loosely woven linen, Moroccan striped poplin and light cashmere for that typical spring feeling. "Market Rodeo" is a mish-mash of stripes and checks in contrasting colors, focusing on shades of ochre, ash grey and nude tones are mixed with hues of blue, burnt yellow and a dusty pink. Key pieces are important in this collection, such as a cashmere-panelled stripy jacket with fringing on the hem.
We also see many accessories like elongated leather belts with whipstitch detailing, matching fanny packs, the artisan slip-on boots in tanned and black leather.
