Since completing the MA at Central Saint Martins, Ashish Gupta is known for offering fun collections that always leave the guests in a good mood. Last season, it was through skateboarding models in princessy/girly dresses. The season before that, the designer presented sexy elements through nightgowns and lingerie combined with fur garments and came to bow with a “I’ll get u pussy face” sweater. Ashish is one of the rare designers who manage to mix fun with technique and who want to offer a show instead of a sometimes-boring catwalk.
This time, Ashish Gupta incorporated his sequin trademark like never before. Starting his rainbow of night outfits with pink, then red and yellow, the looks followed the music whose voice talked about sunsets. A music that was indeed perfectly selected throughout the show, with lyrics such as “My god it’s so hairy” to reference the big Afro wigs. When the sound was diminishing, guests could hear the sound of beads, which showed how such outfits would not only be noticeable but heard – a great way to make an entrance.
This was Ashish’s theme: attracting the eye. With very colourful looks, from bright red to fuchsia, green, orange and blue, to all forms of glitter that reflected the lighting. The designers took classics such as a jean jacket or a fur coat and covered it with big sequins. A knee-length dress was fully decorated with shiny beads from the same white as the fabric. To compliment the looks, big Afros of the same outfit’s colour were sprayed with glitter. The collection was sexy and destined to women that like to go out and are comfortable with such a lifestyle. Thigh-high slit skirts and dresses, cleavage, draperies and bows instead of seams all illustrated this idea.

Ashish took us back to the seventies, where disco ruled, by sending dancing models down the catwalk. They adopted the sequins with style, all the way till the end of the night, with the collection’s last outfit resembling pyjamas. Ashish’s women should clearly never have to be underdressed.
