This season, Holly Fulton chose to bring a spring/summer vibe to winter. Inspired by artist David Inshaw’s The Badminton Game, she transcribed some of the artist’s dreamy atmosphere into her garments. The painting depicts two women playing outdoors, under a blue sky. The nature was translated into different shades of green, olive and khaki and spiced up by yellow and pink. These colourful looks followed more monotones ones, as if the wearer’s mood would light up by going outside in the sun. The idea was underlined by the music, whose beats intensified according to additions of colours.
The designer is known to play with motifs and, this year, laser cut, printed or fabric additions of deconstructed paisley dominated the collection. Applied to dresses, jackets, jumpsuits or even bags and Louboutin shoes, the collection was given consistency with these colourful motifs, and made reference to the seventies, back when the painting was made. A thoughtful addition by the designer who managed to bring her very recognizable style to a work of art she loves.
The collection saw mainly high-necks collars, often contrasted with mini skirts and dresses. She also included short coats with nothing worn under it, to play with the idea of winter clothing and warmth. This idea was reused with velvet materials that for instance came in the form of a sleeveless jumpsuit. Skirts worn over trousers and seventies-styled puffed sleeves completed the looks for a fun winter collection.

Holly Fulton inspired herself by British artist David Inshaw but managed to only put subtle elements of this into her new collection. With a style that screamed Holly Fulton, she clearly knows her signature and how to keep on pleasing her customers.
