A theme that could not be overseen this London Fashion Week was none other than the role of women throughout history. Newcomer DILARA FINDIKOGLU took the visitors of her spring/summer 2017 presentation to an endless history lesson and journey across Shakespearean England.
As the observer entered the famous Sunset Strip on Dean Street, a theatrical and unique presentation unravelled in front of his very eyes. Inspired by the silence kept by women in the sixteenth century, Dilara Findikoglu’s designs were featured by both men and women on the venue’ stage. The reason for the above being that women at that time where at the mercy of the authors and playwrights as well as their chosen portrayal, which meant that men acted all female roles.
Dilara Findikoglu’s muse and inspiration lied beneath the face of Cilem Dogan, who, after murdering her husband who wanted to sell her for prostitution, was jailed in Turkey. With her collection “Dear Past Thanks For All The Lessons”, the designer attempted to provide a voice for the suffering women of the past, as well as to portray their endless struggle and fight for justice.
Strong make-up, silk fabrics, and contradictory colours all added a dramatic taste to the presentation, which enhanced the themes used as inspirations for the collection to come to life.
My Flash Trash contributed to the young designer’s presentation by providing their signature jewellery, whilst enhancing the models appearances and creating a more realistic portrayal. Furthermore, Liam Sparks, Hetty Douglas and Sezer Arici provided tattoos and painted graphics accordingly.

Dilara Findikoglu’s presentation questioned one’s freedom and the struggles that took place before the world became what it is now.
