With its establishment in 1894, DAKS is one of the few British brands still presenting at London Fashion Week. Since Filippo Scuffi’s appointment as Creative Director in 2010, the brand regained its hype and had its comeback on the runway.

This spring/summer 2017, Filippo Scuffi’s drew on the brand’s heritage to move forward in the world. Depicting the perfect English woman, the DAKS woman was in fact travelling both internally and physically across India. With traditional DAKS elements, such as the return of the famous DAKS House Check and beautiful finish, Scuffi mixed the brand’s elegance with ethnic influences to depict a well-travelled woman, eager to know more about the word she lives in. Accessories such as turbans and silver jewellery illustrated this idea and showed a sense of style across cultures.

With a colour palette ranging from white to burgundy, orange and gold to black and grey, the designer effectively referred to both India and a summer sunset. Accordingly, loose maxi dresses and other relaxed silhouettes all went towards the idea of a nice, serene holiday, giving plenty of space for internal reflections. An exquisite long black dress with necklaces worn over an open back allowed to do so in the most stylish manner.

Accompanied by 6 men’s looks, most oh which were couple looks, DAKS not only stayed true to itself, originally being a menswear brand, but also promoted friendship and discoveries people make when together. A highlight was the burgundy and House Check combination couple look, where the same soft tartan trousers complemented a beautiful suede coat for the man, and an explorer’s shirt for the woman.

DAKS’ Filippo Scuffi presented a beautiful collection where traditional British wear met oriental elements. The looks represented a journey of love – love of oneself, love of the other and love of the world.
