One of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin’s most awaited show was probably that of GUIDO MARIA KRETSCHMER. This spring/summer 2017 collection, he was inspired by summers in France and the lifestyle they involve.
Since establishing his label back in 1989, Guido Maria Kretschmer made a name for himself. From ready-to-wear to evening gowns, and ultimately an Haute Couture line, the designer is one of Germany’s pillars when it comes to fashion. Nicknamed “the German Valentino”, he sure attracts the right people to his biannual fashion shows.
This season, French glamour was at the centre-stage. The outfits, as well as the styling, all reminded of an elegant group of French women going to the countryside on a summer weekend. The designer started on a high note, when his first model cycled down the runway dressed in an all-white high waist, long skirt and short top. A flower on her hair band to go with those at the front of her bicycle, and the mood was set. Stylish fun seemed indispensable to the designer’s new looks. From day dresses and shorts, to evening gowns and jumpsuits, this collection could only prepare you for summer in the best way possible. With a dominant pure white, and elements of metallic fabrics and accessories, it would be hard to be unnoticed when wearing Kretschmer. One of the highlights was probably the big fuchsia flower-print on a soft grey silk, which the designer varied in dresses, a top and jumpsuits. Another recurrent style was blue and white stripes, whether big or thin, typical to French fashion. The designer decided to close his show with a floor-length gown made out of that striped fabric, to leave this idea of French glamour in his audience’s head.

Kretschmer’s summer was promised to be full of elegance and lightness, be it with flowy fabrics or the lifestyle promoted by the looks. The designer’s models were stylishly having fun, which everyone in the audience wanted to have too.
