Matthew Miller showed his SS16 collection "Tempest" during London Collections Men last weekend. Miller's design philosophy is that he sees fashion as any other product of design. “I never saw beauty as being something that was a physical object. I fundamentally see beauty as being a moment in time, a fleeting feeling, a scar, a memory, an experience, a sense of freedom.”, he says. Inspired by the painting "A Studio of Clouds 1871" by British romantic John Constable, Miller leans on different styles to bring together a diverse collection that roots in the amalgamation of clothing styles and references. Skinhead fashion meets romanticism and poetry. Miller took apart and reformed the kimono, oversized cardigan and tuxedo, while also bringing in a checkerboard pattern that appears in an abundance of blues.
We see a lot of silk, whether it be in jackets or pants, but also linen that seems to be extra light. The pieces are wearable and come in a cloud print, Navy and also beige and cream tones. The buttons set a nice, rebellious contrast to the otherwise rather classic outfits and cuts. It's overall a youthful collection of "megasonic teenage warheads".
