Besides presenting business round tables, a number of press conferences, podium talks and presentations, PERU MODA does not lose its connection to the creative side: JÓVENES CREADORES AL MUNDO took place in Lima again. Supporting the creative youth of Peru by giving them a platform to show their designs is crucial to the essence of the fair. For the 12th time now, Young Creators to the World took place in Lima. The ultimate goal of both the contest and PERU MODA is to internationalize the Peruvian fashion industry and prepare young designers to take their culture to the global market.
Fashion design students from around the country presented their interpretation of a given theme to judges; the best 10 were then brought to Lima to show four of their creation in a runway show. A committee of four industry experts then undertakes a detailed assessment of the creation, naming one winner.
Among the criteria are creativity, finish and technique. This year’s price included three industry sewing machines, airline tickets and an internship at the Technology Institute for Fashion in Beijing.
Looking to connect Peruvian culture with current trends, the interpretation of the given theme was unique for every design student. The name of this year’s theme was “Amar”, which aims to remind of the green eco system of the country. Students were allowed to use cotton and alpaca and, as mentioned before, present four different outfits in the runway show.
The winner of this year’s JÓVENES CREADORES AL MUNDO competition is Vania Tafur from Northern Peru. She took her inspiration from traveling in order to change her perspective on the world. Her creations included outfits for both men and women, combining natural colors with traditional Peruvian garments. The highlight of the four creations is an ankle length sleeveless dress combined with a fishnet-resembling headpiece in bright red, contrasting harmonically with the soft earth tones. Including styles for both men and women showed her creative side and skill set, setting her apart from the other contestants.
