Uzo Aduba, star from the successful TV Comedy “Orange Is The New Black”, who won two Emmys, will star in “The Maids” in London. The contemporary version of the piece is directed by Jamie Lloyd for his first production of 2016 and will be the full-throttle UK version of the powerful psycho-drama. Next du Aduba, the all-star cast includes Zawe Ashton and Laura Carmichael.
The vicious analysis of the class system is at its peak when two maids, Solange and Claire, played by Aduba and Ashton, fantasize about killing their employer while sitting in his luxurious bedroom – the dangerous and sadistic scenario of the violent death is as unsettling as it is brimming with intrigue. The Maids provocatively explores the roles of gender, class and sexuality.
Aduba, who has before been seen on TV, in film and in theatres, explained that she wanted to be a part of The Jamie Lloyd Company, because they are “interested in doing exciting work that is new, with a twist to it.” She added that that the company reinvents the plays in a way they have not been seen nor explored before, which adds excitement for the actors as well as it is for the audience. The dynamic cast that has been assembled for this special piece will widen the reach of Trafalgar with its unique material once again.
Jamie Lloyd, the acclaimed director, has been known to direct pieces including The Homecoming, Ruling Class, Macbeth and many more, starring internationally known actors.
